La Joueuse De Go
The cover and five Illustrations from the book "The Girl Who Played Go" by Shan Sa, a story about a young girl mastering the Go game in Mandchouria during the occupation of Japan in the 1930's. The story is told from both points of view, with chapters alternating between the Chinese girl and a young Japanese officer, that eventually come to face each other in a game of the Go.
Chapter 76, After many events, he becomes a spy for Japan, and the two of them regularly play Go. Once, being exhausted from of the mourning of her friends and lover, the girl falls asleep in the sun. The young man siting under a tree protects her from the sun, intrigued and puzzled, wondering about her life.
Final Chapter, (SPOILERS) She eventually gets herself arrested by a group of Japanese soldiers. The officer is also there and recognizes her under her man's clothes, and so does she, feeling betrayed. When the soldiers understand that she is actually a woman, they try to rape her. The young officer, to save her from the soldiers, has no choice but to kill her, as she begs him to do so, and kills himself right afterwards.
